Harold Garfield Ghee, the fifth son of the late Edna Rainey and Crawaley Ghee, was born on December 16, 1932, in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He departed this life suddenly on April 16, 2009.  Harold received his academic education in Lunenburg County and Baltimore City Public schools. His Christian education began on July 28, 1940 and continued throughout his life at New Grove Baptist Church.  In 1951, Harold married Guinevere Raynor. From this union three children, Glenn, Michael, and Linda were born. Harold later fathered another son, Harold S. Patmon.  As a professional truck driver, Harold was a dedicated and industrious employee. He had the opportunity to work for many employers, including Fryer and Sons, Seabrook and Kane Transportation. He retired in 1996 and being a ‘Good Ole Country Boy’ at heart, he returned to this childhood community of Oral Oaks in Kenbridge, VA.  Harold spent his retirement years doing things that he enjoyed, such as watching ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Jeopardy’, trying his skills as a handyman and a landscaper. He was known as the “Can-Do-Everything Man”.  Harold found joy and took great pride in the academic and personal successes, of his grandchildren, Leah, Glenn, and Colin.  Harold’s professional achievements rivaled his personal ones. He loved and was dedicated to his family and friends. If you asked anyone to describe him they would surely respond by saying that he was a ‘People Person’, even to the point of giving you a personal nickname. Everywhere he went he would strike up and hold interesting conversations. He spent many hours giving love, emotional and financial support to his family and friends, whether near or far.  Harold was the family oral historian. Spending time with family and ensuring that all members in the family knew who they belonged to and how they were all connected and related was of utmost importance to him.  Harold leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Glenn Garfield Ghee, Michael Carey Ghee and Harold Sylvester Patmon; one granddaughter, Leah Ghee Littlefield; one grandson, Colin Michael Ghee; three sisters, Grace Irene Ghee Phillips, Louise Mary Ghee, and Sallie Lasarah Ghee; two brothers, James Crawley Ghee and Ellis Wadsworth Ghee (Pauline); one uncle, John Henry Rainey; a loving and devoted partner, Margie Fitzgerald and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Carol Lawson and his grandson Glenn Littlefield.  Funeral services were conducted April 23, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at New Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge, VA with Rev. Dr. Curtis W. Bagley, Jr. officiating.   S. P. Jones and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
