Kenbridge P.D. to host video program May 7th
Some people here the word ‘gang’ and immediately think of big cities where gang violence and crime has obtained national media coverage.
But the truth is, gang activity has spread throughout the United States – including to small rural communities like those found in Lunenburg County.
To raise awareness of the growing gang problem in Virginia, the Kenbridge Police Department will host a special video documentary program on May 7th, at the Ripberger Library, beginning at 2 p.m.
The video, entitled "The Wrong Family: Virginia Fights Back Against Gangs" documents the destructive nature of gang activity in Virginia, and explores why children are
lured to gangs. It also illustrates ways to prevent children from joining gangs.
Since the video contains images and dialogue that are real and uncensored, parental guidance is suggested.
The video lasts approximately 28 minutes and the showing will be repeated
throughout the afternoon with the last viewing scheduled for 5:30 pm. The Kenbridge Police Department hopes the repeated showings will allow local citizens a chance to view the video, and learn ways to help their children avoid gang related activities and gang violence.
The video was provided by the Commonwealth of Virginia Office of the Attorney General, Commonwealth of Virginia.
“Gang activity and crime is a real issue of concern in Virginia,” Kenbridge Police Chief Jan Myers said recently. “We think this video will benefit our community by raising awareness. We also hope it will help parents learn more about keeping their children safe – and keeping them away from gangs.”
